What is Epi Info™?

Epi Info is statistical software for handling epidemiological research data. The software is designed and developed by Center for Disease Control and Prevention Atlanta, USA. Epi Info is a key component in public health education at colleges, universities, and other schools of public health around the world.

Epi info most comonly used for developing small to medium size disease surveillance systems, response activities, outbreak investigations and other epidemiologic studies. It has been estimated that Epi Info software is being used in more than 181 countries of the world and  there are more than one million users of Epi Info worldwide. Various translation of this software is also available and at present this software is transaled in more than 13 diffenet languages.

Epi Info software is not a new software. It has a history of more than 25 years. The first verion of this software was released in 1985. It was DOS based version according to the available operating system at that time. First Windows version was released in Year 2000. Epi Info-7 is the Latest release of Epi Info from CDC. This is one of the major enhancements over its previous version of Epi Info 3.5.3 with a totally new platform and many new features.
Mobile Data Collection

Epi Info™ mobile apps bring many of the features of Epi Info™ for Windows onto Android and iOS mobile platforms.
Epidemiologists can calculate sample sizes, collect data, and perform analysis using their smartphones or tablets to investigate outbreaks, respond to emergencies, or conduct public health research in locations lacking IT infrastructure. Data collection forms can be designed using Epi Info™ for Windows and emailed to users of mobile devices. The apps will load the forms and allow users to immediately collect data in the field.

Essential Course

Epi Info Essential course is three days training course specially designed for Public Health professionals. The course provides the participants with the basic knowledge and skills of using Epi info software for research data management and analysis. Keeping in view the time constraints,  a study project ie., an outbreak investigation is used in the training course.

A series of three activities are designed for three course days. Each activity is the base for the next activity and has to be completed in a step-wise manner. For each training activity an illustrated guidelines developed which facilitate the participants to complete the activity tasks.

Basic Course

Epi Info basic course is five days essential training course specially designed for Public Health professionals. The course provides the participants with the basic knowledge and skills of using Epi info software for research data management and analysis. Keeping in view the time constraints,  a study project ie., an outbreak investigation is used in the training course.

A series of five activities are designed for five days of training course. Each activity is the base for the next activity and has to be completed in a step-wise manner. For each training activity an illustrated guidelines developed which facilitate the participants to complete the activity tasks. Successfull completion of these activities will provide the participants with all the essential skills of using Epi Info for research data analysis and management.

Advanced Course

The Advance course in Epi Info-7 is designed for the residents of Diploma in field Epidemiology (DFE) & Master in Public Health (MPH) Training Programs. The duration of the course is two weeks. This course provides a comprehensive indepth knoweldge and skills for using Epi Info and its application in computer based research data analysis.

The Advance course is also conducted for the regional Public Health professionals. Only those participants are selected who have successfully completed the Basic Course.

The advance course includes; Designing Complex multipage questionnaire. Building relational system,  questionnaires templates. Handling data cleaning and advance analysis techniques, Converting Excel data into EPi Info Project and many more.
